RADICAL HYSTERECTOMIES DUE TO CANCER

Gynecological cancers in many cases require complete removal of the gynecological organs together with the removal of lymph nodes. These procedures are performed by specialized laparoscopic gynecologic surgeons in coordination with and under the guidance of the hospital’s oncology team.

The advantages of laparoscopic radical removal are:

  • Less blood loss during surgery
  • Less intra-abdominal reaction and trauma due to the nature of laparoscopic surgery
  • The possible preservation of the nerve plexuses in the area that supply the bladder and bowel, maintaining their normal function and reducing the likelihood of bladder atony (difficulty urinating and need for catheterization)
  • Discharge from the hospital the day after the procedure with return to normal activities within the week, and most importantly,
  • Due to all the above, a faster initiation of chemotherapy compared to classic open surgery (laparotomy), leading to better survival outcomes.
